Michael Ascher
is an experienced transactional attorney with expertise in all
aspects of real estate law, including acquisitions, leasing, development
and financing. Michael also advises individuals and small and
medium sized corporations with respect to general corporate matters,
including corporate formation, governance and structure, and commercial
contracts. Michael came to the firm from Carlson Partners, Ltd.
in Lombard, Illinois, where he built a private practice specializing
in the foregoing areas.
Prior to joining Carlson Partners, Michael was Senior Vice President
and General Counsel for TSG Real Estate, where he coordinated
acquisition and financing of retail and industrial properties.
In addition, he supervised outside counsel in drafting and launching
private placement memoranda for sale of undivided Tenant in Common
(TIC) interests in properties with credit-rated tenants subject
to triple-net leases, including two portfolios of automobile retail
facilities totaling over $200 million.
Prior to TSG,
Michael was Associate General Counsel for national senior independent
and assisted living provider Brookdale Senior Living, Inc., where
he coordinated acquisitions, developments and financing in the
senior living/health care space and provided general corporate
advice for the company. Michael worked closely with c-level executives
to implement sophisticated real estate acquisition and financing
vehicles such as synthetic leases and sale-leaseback transactions
in order to achieve the larger corporate goal of strategic growth,
which culminated in an initial public offering.
Prior to his tenure at Brookdale, Michael was an associate in
the real estate departments of Piper, Marbury, Rudnick & Wolfe,
LLP (now known as DLA Piper) and Ross & Hardies (now known
as McGuireWoods). At both firms, Michael developed a sophisticated
real estate practice which included leasing, acquisitions and
dispositions, financing (representing both traditional and securitized
lending clients), and development.
